Shangri-La Colombo is the glass tower at the northern end of Galle Face, looking straight out over the Indian Ocean and the harbour. Since opening it has set the bar for luxury hotels in the city.
What it’s like
Rooms are large and most have ocean or harbour views. The hotel has a big spa, a gym and outdoor pools, and it is a destination for food in its own right: Shang Palace for Chinese, Table One for all-day buffets and Capital Bar & Grill for steaks and seafood. The Sapphyr Lounge does afternoon tea.
It connects to the One Galle Face mall, which is handy for shopping, cinemas and a food court.
Good to know
- Ask for a high floor facing the ocean for sunsets over Galle Face Green.
- Fort, Pettah and Galle Face Green are all a short tuk-tuk ride or walk away.
- Even if you are staying elsewhere, the restaurants and lounge are worth booking.
