Why we marked it

  • Eclectic temple full of curiosities
  • Seema Malaka pavilion by Geoffrey Bawa
  • On the edge of Beira Lake
  • Hub of the Navam Perahera

Gangaramaya is one of Colombo’s most important temples and certainly its most eclectic, with a museum-like collection of statues, relics, vintage cars and gifts from around the world.

What to expect

Nearby on Beira Lake, the Seema Malaka meditation pavilion, designed by Geoffrey Bawa, floats on platforms connected by walkways and is especially lovely at dusk.

Good to know

  • Dress modestly and remove shoes.
  • Your ticket usually covers Seema Malaka too.
  • The temple hosts the Navam Perahera around February.
